What an Imperial Dam LTVA permit gets you
BLM lists two restroom buildings with outdoor showers, trash service, gray water dump sites, a black water dump site with water, a dance floor and ramadas. The area covers about 3,500 acres of flat desert.
Season (Sept 15 to Apr 15): $180 for the whole season, or $40 for any 14 consecutive days. You can renew the $40 permit as many times as you like.
Off-season (Apr 16 to Sept 14): $10 day use, $15 overnight or $75 annual per vehicle, for up to 5 people, plus $1 for each extra person. The stay limit is 14 days in a 28-day period.
One permit, every LTVA: BLM says LTVA permits are valid at all of its LTVAs, so a permit bought at La Posa in Quartzsite also covers Imperial Dam.
No pass discount: BLM's LTVA brochure says America the Beautiful and Golden Age passes don't discount LTVA fees.
You can buy a permit on site or at the BLM Yuma Field Office, 7341 E. 30th St., open 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday.
Getting there from Yuma
Leave I-8 at the 4th Avenue exit and head north on Imperial County Highway S-24.
Drive about 22 miles to Senator Wash Road.
Turn onto Senator Wash Road. BLM puts the LTVA campgrounds about 2 miles in and the South Mesa campground about 3 miles in.
The dump station is at South Mesa. Follow the posted signs.
Our map pin is the Recreation.gov GPS point for the LTVA, so treat it as approximate.
Can you just pay to dump at South Mesa?
BLM's Senator Wash pages say the South Mesa dump station needs a fee from Sept 15 through Apr 15, but they don't post a dump-only price. If you aren't staying at the LTVA, ask a camp host or call the Yuma Field Office at (928) 317-3200 before you go. In the off-season, BLM lists a $10 per-vehicle day-use fee.
Water and gray water at Squaw Lake
BLM's T.K. Jones Campground sits on Squaw Lake, about 4 miles in on Senator Wash Road. It has about 125 RV sites, a central potable water point, trash, and gray water disposal. BLM doesn't list a black water dump there, so use South Mesa for your black tank. Fees are $10 day use, $15 overnight or $75 annual per vehicle, with a 14-day limit in any 28 days. Showers cost extra.
Propane around Yuma
Love's #349 lists bulk propane and tank exchange, so you can dump and fill at the same stop. Heading east on I-8, Pilot Dealer #1235 at Tacna, Exit 42, lists bulk and cylinder propane but no dump. Pilot #1208 in Yuma lists neither.
What about the Yuma Civic Center dump?
Several RV directories list a key-access dump station at the Yuma Civic Center, 1440 W. Desert Hills Drive. The city's Civic Center page doesn't mention one, so we couldn't verify it or a price. The page lists office hours of 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday to Friday. Call (928) 373-5040 before you count on it.
Quick plan
Passing through on I-8: dump and fill propane at Love's #349, Exit 3.
Staying the winter: buy an LTVA permit and use the South Mesa dump and water at Imperial Dam.
